Why I quit fast fashion for small batch feminine clothing
I still remember every year donating bags of clothes to Savers, clothes with hangtags still attached to them. My closet still filled with clothes —feeling like I had absolutely nothing to wear. Sound familiar?
For years, I thought fast fashion was the solution to all my problems. It was convenient, cheap, and promised to keep me up to date with every trend.
At any moment, I could see one of my favorite influencers wearing a cute dress and within minutes, my cart had something similar for less than it would cost my grocery bill. And that instant gratification felt like freedom.
Because I felt brand new.
But here's what I didn't realize…
How Fast Fashion Actually Impacted My Life
What started as a quick fix became a cycle I couldn't escape.
Despite having a closet bursting with options, I always felt like I had nothing to wear.
Every morning became a frustration as I sifted through pieces that looked cute online or on some influencer but never quite made me feel beautiful when I put them on.
And what’s worse is that fast fashion, like with everything else in our society – 2-day shipping – left me with an expectation that everything had to be fast.
And as a Christian, that’s dangerous.
The reality of my days as a woman who valued depth, quality relationships, and spiritual growth was rushed. I was living in contradiction, expecting my clothes to keep up with an unrealistic pace while my heart craved something slower, more intentional, more lasting.
The worst part? I was collecting and hoarding stuff instead of curating pieces that truly served me. My closet became a graveyard of impulse purchases and trend-chasing mistakes, each piece a reminder of another time I chose quantity over quality, speed over intention.
What Fast Fashion Meant for My Brand
And when I first started Tiana Bay, I fell into the same trap with my business. Fast fashion felt like the obvious path—it's what everyone expected, what seemed profitable, what felt "smart" from a business perspective.
But fast fashion was always changing, and it felt unstable. Just when we'd find a style that truly worked for our customers—pieces that made them feel feminine and beautiful—the trends would shift, and we'd be pressured to move on to the next thing.
Even worse, when we did find styles that resonated, the materials available through fast fashion fell short.
We'd crave beautiful designs only to watch them lose their shape, fade, or fall apart after a few wears. And our customers deserved so much better.
As smaller designers, we were also capped by inventory demands. We couldn't order thousands of SKUs like the big brands, which meant we were always trying to keep up with a system that wasn't designed for intentional, quality-focused businesses like ours.
The Decision to Choose Quality Over Speed
The turning point came when I realized we weren't just selling clothes—we were selling an experience, a feeling, a way for women to reconnect with their God-given femininity.
And she deserved more than some fast fashion trend.
I want to be clear: we didn't become a sustainable brand just to check a box. While we're aware of the impact fashion has on our community, our decision was rooted in something deeper—we wanted to make good quality clothes that would last longer. We wanted feminine styles made with materials that honored both the woman wearing them and the craftsmanship that created them.
We had to pivot because we simply couldn't deliver styles that were inferior and put our name on them. Our customers—women like you who are reclaiming their femininity and embracing their softness—deserve the best experience possible.
They deserve pieces that make them feel as beautiful as God designed them to be.

Manufacturing with Intention and Love
Now, we manufacture styles that our customers actually want, carefully picking materials that we love and that help our girls feel their absolute best.
This means being intentional and slow with every decision, but more importantly, it means we can truly deliver on quality.
Our styles have evolved from being fast fashion fads to investment pieces—but more importantly, they've become styles that will last a long time.
And would make you proud.
When you invest in a Tiana Bay dress, you're not just buying something to wear for a season. You're investing in pieces that celebrate your femininity season after season, year after year.
Yes, this approach means our inventory is more limited.
But that limitation is actually our strength—it means we can always deliver quality. Every piece that leaves our studio has been crafted with the same care and attention we'd want for our own daughters, sisters, and friends.
Permission to Feel Pretty Again
Here's what I've learned through this journey: you're not vain for wanting to feel beautiful.
There’s so many examples of women in the bible who were beautiful – Women like Sarai, Rachel, Bathsheba, Esther, etc
But fast fashion will never make you feel because it’s job is to simply make enough styles to turn a profit.
You weren't made to chase trends—you were made to stand apart. And that requires feminine clothes that honor your God-given femininity and make you feel pretty every time you put them on.
True luxury is quiet. It's found in the way a well-made dress moves with you, in fabric that feels beautiful against your skin, in cuts that celebrate your feminine silhouette instead of forcing you into someone else's vision of what you should look like.
Our small batch approach means that when you wear Tiana Bay, you're wearing something created specifically for women who understand that femininity is beautiful, that it's okay to want to feel pretty, and that quality will always surpass quantity.
