So I guess it started at a local market event our community was hosting
October 2023, my sister and I brought our big bin of clothes over to the local baseball field where our booth was located
As we were setting up, a young woman walked over to our booth. She was dressed in all black, offered a quick smile and quickly browsed the rack.
We said our hellos, proceeded with very small talk when she shared that she went through a breakup that violently shook her world
Over the sounds of distant chatter and horns, she shared how she dropped out of grad school, gained a lot of weight and for 4 years battled with depression and her own self worth.
At the requesting of her mother’s pleas, she started therapy and it was going ok.
She was planning to re-enroll next year, but now she was looking for something to redefine herself.
My sister went to work, browsing the rack and cheering her own. We found a couple of pieces that she liked and bought before we said our goodbyes.
But that moment still sits with me today - but hits a little differently.
When my sister and I first started Tiana Bay, we fell into a familiar trap that plagues the fashion industry.
We chased trends, convenience at the expense of quality.
It was what everyone was doing.
But fast fashion was always changing, and it felt unstable. And just when we’d find a style that truly worked for our customers—pieces that made them feel feminine and beautiful—the trends would shift, and we’d be pressured to move on to the next thing.
Even worse, when we did find styles that resonated, the materials available through fast fashion fell short.
We’d crave beautiful designs only to watch them lose their shape, fade, or fall apart after a few wears.
And as a smaller brand, we were also capped by inventory demands. We couldn’t order thousands of SKUs like the big brands, which meant we were always trying to keep up with a system that wasn’t designed for intentional, quality-focused businesses like ours.
But more importantly, our customers deserved so much better.
Because clothes wasn’t just something we threw on to leave the house
For some of us, it’s the opportunity to tell our story.
To choose to be who we want to be, rather than what others has said about us
I want to be clear: we didn’t become a sustainable brand just to check a box.
And to be honest, I wouldn’t consider us a sustainable brand because our goal isn’t sustainability
Now, we are aware of the impact fashion has on our world and we do not want to keep producing trash that is impacting our global neighbors,
But our decision was rooted in something deeper—we wanted to make good quality clothes that would last longer to remind the women who wear our dresses that they are beautiful, valuable and deserve to be seen as that.
Because we deserves to see ourselves as beautiful and pretty
This means being intentional and slow with every decision, from the fabric selection to the finishing details
And so our dresses has evolved from being fast fashion trends, made cheap and fast to sell as quickly as possible,
To styles that our thoughtfully created for our girls, investment dresses that are made slowly with attention to detail and carefully created to reflect the women who wear them
Dresses that are no longer made from polyester but rather natural fabrics, designed to honor your body rather than exploit it.
And by choosing this route, our dresses will be more expensive.
But that’s ok, because our dresses are beyond trends.
And our inventory is smaller.
But that limitation is actually our strength—it means we can always deliver quality. Every piece that leaves our studio has been crafted with the same care and attention we’d want for our own sisters, mom, and friends.
It’s not silly wanting to look pretty, especially after challenging seasons in life.
Rather it’ss courageous to show up and be seen, to strive to feel pretty and embrace yourself again after such set backs
And when you choose to shop with us, know that our dresses are designed for you.
Because our dresses are classy and simple, it’s not competing with you, but rather providing you with the stage to see yourself again.
We are a slower fashion, Christian clothing brand that makes and sells feminine dresses for woman looking to reclaim their God-given femininity.
We believe that being born a woman, you are inherently feminine. Life may tell you otherwise, but sometimes all we need is a reminder. And that reminder is as easy as seeing yourself as the woman you are.
Our dresses are exclusively available through preorder, often times making less than demand. So that we can focus on what really matters: making you look more feminine and feel pretty
