My sister once shared a video with me that solidified our brand’s purpose.
In this short video, there was a beautiful young black woman who shared that by just being black, she felt invisible and undesirable.
And I remember the pain in her voice, piercing me so deeply.
It was something I struggled with as well.
Being a black woman who was not the stereotypical black woman (i.e. rough around the edges, assertive, loud and over the top, or over-sexualized etc) I was often reminded how "white" I was.
And to add insult to injury, I enjoyed country music. Growing up, I loved the Motown era along with the big band era. And I also loved country and adult contemporary. Is it any wonder why I felt so comfortable being invisible and struggled with being seen and desired.
But what changed was my relationship with God, and the reminder that each of us is fearfully and wonderfully created for a purpose along with our love for feminine fashion.
And that's what makes our brand so different.
