What Is Considered Feminine Clothing?

So, What Is Feminine Clothing?

We love keeping thing simple, so in simple terms, feminine clothes are styles that accentuates a woman's natural feminine figure and this is so much more than just florals and pink colors. It comes down to the fabric and construction of the material, how the style fits and feels and when is that particular material purposeful. Additionally, well-designed garments often feature strategic seaming and reinforcement in key areas to enhance the women's silhouette without sacrificing mobility.

At Tiana Bay, we like to say that feminine fashion will highlight your God-given femininity.

And that's because feminine fashion tends to

  • Help you look feminine, classy and pretty
  • Helps you feel amazing about yourself and that confidence is attractive AND
  • Sets you apart from everyone else because rather than follow trends, you choose to stand apart and embracing the femininity

how to wear feminine clothes

Ok, so we covered what feminine clothes are but how do wear feminine clothes.

Well, sort of. And this is where things can get a little more nuance. When it comes to developing a feminine style, how you style your feminine clothes will be based on your feminine figure, or body type (ie apple, pear, hourglass, rectangle, or inverted triangle).

And when you style your feminine clothes you want to style your bodytype to resemble the hourglass. And the reason why the hour glass is the most feminine figure is because it balances your feminine curves the best - chest, waist and hips.

And of course, the major objections we hear is that it's misogynistic to think that the hourglass is the only feminine form. Or it's a form of European/white supremacy/internalized racism and we should embrace all bodytypes equally and dress appropriately for each type.

And here's the thing, you're welcome to style however you choose, but when it comes to dressing classy and feminine, it's about taking it comes down to balance. We're not saying that you're body isn't beautiful but what we're saying is that the best way to dress feminine is to start with your bodytype and style accordingly.

And when it comes to dressing more feminine, the goal is to style your bodytype to resemble the feminine figure

For example, let’s say you are a pear.

Which means you’re likely smaller in the chest with a larger, or more defined waist and hips.

So, when it comes to styling femininely, you’re likely going to choose styles that accentuates your figure while balancing your bodytype by bring more attention to your chest to create that hourglass image.

And this romper is a perfect example. The lapel and v-neckline brings the gaze away from the waist and hips to the chest, which creates a balance, hour-glass look. Another subtle note is that the skort of the romper is loose-fitting. Because the model is a pear-shaped, and the romper is light-colored, it's going to bring attention to the wearer, so but having a fitted but not tight waist, it does not accentuate her waist too much.

And this is where so many people go wrong when trying to dress more feminine. We’ve seen tons of classy fashion influencers sponsored by large fast fashion companies wearing trends that are not feminine and does not align with their natural body.

One example that comes to mind was this beautiful classy influencer, with a pear-shaped body, wearing a black and white color block formfitting mini dress (ie the top was black and the mini skirt was white).

Well, her waist and hips were definitely the focus of the video and unfortunately the outfit looked jarring and tacky.

Her comments were filled with people praising her but hating the outfit which devolved into to a conversation about race.

And as our team looked at it, it was clear that the particular dress did not flatter her bodytype.

That dress would have probably worked for an inverse triangle or an hourglass shaped woman.

Valerie, Co-Founder of Tiana Bay

My sister and I started Tiana Bay with a goal to help women reclaim their femininity with a curated collection of high-quality, classy, and playful styles. Our brand was created out of frustration to how black women were negatively portrayed in the media and our goal is to challenge the negative stereotypes surrounding black women and femininity

We want to help you celebrate the strength and beauty that lies within a woman who knows she was born for such a time as this.
