Let's start at the beginning, and understand what feminine fashion is.  And if you’ve read our previous post - what is feminine clothing, feel free to skip over this… What is Feminine Fashion? What does it mean to dress more feminine? At its core, feminine fashion or dressing more feminine is dressing in a manner that highlights your female attributes through beauty, makeup and fashion. Now, let’s add a little more depth to that because this is so much more than just florals, lace or pink. It comes down to the fabric and construction of the material, how the style fits and feels and when is that particular material purposeful.  Additionally, feminine clothes are well-designed garments that often feature strategic seaming and reinforcement in key areas to enhance the women's silhouette. Now that we got the basics out of the way, let’s get into some intermediate level things. Dressing more feminine will depend on your body type. At Tiana Bay, we believe in embracing your God-given femininity - which means that by being born a woman, you are naturally feminine so when it comes to dressing more feminine, we are dressing in a manner that enhances your natural feminine features. And it starts with your body type. Body types are categorized into several shapes, each with its unique characteristics. The most common ones are the hourglass, pear, apple, rectangle, and inverted triangle. And for the sake of this post, let’s focus on the five and little closely.  how to dress more feminine for my body type 1. Apple Body Shape The apple body shape is typically characterized by a wider midsection with a large bust, narrow hips, and slender legs. Oftentimes, women with this shape often have little to no waist definition and may carry weight around their torso. Styling for this bodytype would opt for a flowy wrap dress that cinches above her natural waist, skimming over the midsection would help define the waist while the flowy material avoids clinging to the midsection, giving a flattering, soft, and feminine shape. 2. Pear Body Shape The pear body shape features wider hips that are larger than the shoulders and bust. Pear-shaped women typically have a well-defined waist and proportionally slimmer arms and shoulders, with weight gain primarily occurring around the hips and thighs. Dressing femininely for this bodytype would opt to add volume to the upper body by looking for blouses with puffy sleeves, deep neckline to create balance and draw the eyes upwards and probably opt for dark colored high waisted trousers or aline skirts. Aline dresses and fit and flare dresses work well for this bodytype as well.  3. Hourglass Body Shape This shape is defined by nearly equal bust and hip measurements with a significantly smaller waist. This body type naturally has balanced proportions, with rounder hips and busts and a narrow, well-defined waist. Dressing more femininely for this bodytype would be to maintain the body’s natural balance by highlighting the waist. Fitted tops and dresses that nip at the waist, as well as styles that are belted, are excellent choices. Avoid boxy or loose clothing that hides the waist.  4. Inverted Triangle Body Shape  This bodytype is defined by broad shoulders and/or a larger bust that tapers down to narrower hips. This shape tends to project a sporty and athletic look with little to no waist definition and a flatter bottom. Dressing femininely for this bodytype is to balance the broader upper body by adding volume to the lower body. Opt for clothes that add curves to the hips and create a more defined waist like the pleated skirts and wide leg trousers.  Opt for tops with deep V-necks or asymmetrical styles to break up the width of the shoulders. Stay away from wide necklines and shoulder details, such as shoulder pads.  5. Rectangle Body Shape This bodytype is characterized by equal measurements across the bust, waist, and hips, giving the body a straight, column-like appearance. There is a lack of curves, and the waist is typically undefined. Rectangles tend to have a lean, athletic build. Dressing femininely for this bodytype involves focusing on adding curves by breaking up the straight silhouette. You can do this by adding volume to both the upper and lower body, while pulling in the waist. Look for tops that have details like ruffles or embellishments around the bust and shoulders to create the illusion of curves. Belted dresses, wrap dresses, and fit-and-flare styles are great for defining the waist and creating a balanced silhouette.  Avoid boxy or shapeless clothing, as it can accentuate the rectangular shape. Instead, choose garments that nip in at the waist and flare at the hips to break up the straight line of the body. The key to dressing more feminine for your bodytype is to look for pieces that are tailored to fit well and enhance your natural shape. And avoid boxy cuts because they generally obscure your form. And while we would encourage using natural material whenever possible, dressing femininely comes down to the weight of the material, the construction of the garment and your lifestyle. After all, polyester was created as an alternative to natural fabric because people grew tired of constantly having to iron their clothes and wanted something easy to wear.
