What Is Considered Feminine Clothing?

What Is Feminine Clothing? (And How to Build a Wardrobe That Honors Your Womanhood)
Have you ever looked at your closet and thought, “I want to look more feminine… but I don’t know where to start?”
You’re not alone.
In this day and age, the idea of feminine clothing often gets watered down into something that can mean anything you want it to mean with some florals, ruffles, or pink sprinkled on top.
So, let’s keep things simple, feminine clothes are styles that accentuates a woman's natural feminine figure.
From the fabric to the construction of the material, truly feminine pieces are thoughtfully constructed with details like seams or tailoring in areas to highlight your feminine figure. And this is what sets us apart from a lot of different feminine clothing brand
At Tiana Bay, we hand-select styles that elevate your God-given femininity.
When you wear feminine clothing, you should feel:
✨ Help you look feminine, classy and pretty
✨ Helps you feel amazing about yourself and that confidence is attractive AND
✨ Helps you to reconnect with your womanhood proudly.
As black women, we hated being seen as two extremes - either the oversexualized side chick that was beautiful and voluptuous but often depicted with clothes two sizes too small -
Or the masculinized woman
And so, we do not chase every fashion trends, but focus on quality feminine pieces that complement your figure
Why Feminine Clothing Changes More Than Your Wardrobe
For many women, dressing more feminine isn’t just about clothes—it’s about reclaiming an identity they’ve been taught to suppress.
We hear this story all the time:
“Sometimes I feel so masculine and it hurts so bad. People will never see me as a woman because I’m Black and I can’t do anything to change that. No matter what I do I will be masculinized. I hate it here.”
Maybe you’ve experienced this too.
We have been unfairly labeled as “strong,” “masculine,” or “intimidating” simply for being black
And told to toughen up - and not show any weakness because by being born a woman we were somehow defected
So it's no wonder we struggled to embrace our womanhood and be seen as women who love being girly, dressing up.
But when we are courageous enough to do so - it can be pretty crazy
“I changed my wardrobe because I wanted to be a certain type of woman. And since changing my wardrobe, I’ve received a better response—and because of that, I’m in different environments—better environments. Even the groups of men that approach me are different. I used to get confused when certain types of people approached me because they weren’t the type of people I’d hang with. But I had to change up. I had to level up.”
Feminine clothing doesn’t just change how you look—it changes how you’re perceived, received, and respected. It can open doors to better opportunities, better environments, and better relationships.
When you embrace yourself wholly and dress up - you carry yourself differently. And that's what makes the difference
That's why at Tiana Bay, we don’t just sell clothes - we’re here to celebrate and cherish the feminine woman God created you to be—the woman He created on purpose - for a purpose.
Our clothes are sourced from independent designers who share our vision of timeless, classy femininity. We’re not here to churn out fast fashion; we’re here to help you build a wardrobe that grows with you, season after season.
How to Wear Feminine Clothes for Your Body
Ok, so we covered what feminine clothes are but how do wear feminine clothes.
Well, sort of. And this is where things can get a little more nuance. When it comes to developing a feminine style, how you style your feminine clothes will be based on your feminine figure, or body type (ie apple, pear, hourglass, rectangle, or inverted triangle).
And when you style your feminine clothes you want to style your bodytype to resemble the hourglass. And the reason why the hour glass is the most feminine figure is because it balances your feminine curves the best - chest, waist and hips.
And when it comes to dressing more feminine, the goal is to style your bodytype to resemble the feminine figure
For example, let’s say you are a pear.
Which means you’re likely smaller in the chest with a larger, or more defined waist and hips.
So, when it comes to styling femininely, you’re likely going to choose styles that accentuates your figure while balancing your bodytype by bring more attention to your chest to create that hourglass image.
And this romper is a perfect example. The lapel and v-neckline brings the gaze away from the waist and hips to the chest, which creates a balance, hour-glass look. Another subtle note is that the skort of the romper is loose-fitting. Because the model is a pear-shaped, and the romper is light-colored, it's going to bring attention to the wearer, so but having a fitted but not tight waist, it does not accentuate her waist too much.
And this is where so many people go wrong when trying to dress more feminine. We’ve seen tons of classy fashion influencers sponsored by large fast fashion companies wearing trends that are not feminine and does not align with their natural body.
One example that comes to mind was this beautiful classy influencer, with a pear-shaped body, wearing a black and white color block formfitting mini dress (ie the top was black and the mini skirt was white).
Well, her waist and hips were definitely the focus of the video and unfortunately the outfit looked jarring and tacky.
Her comments were filled with people praising her but hating the outfit which devolved into to a conversation about race.
And as our team looked at it, it was clear that the particular dress did not flatter her bodytype.
That dress would have probably worked for an inverse triangle or an hourglass shaped woman.
It’s not just about the brand you wear, but how the clothing looks on your figure.
That’s why at Tiana Bay, we do the work for you.
We build capsule collections and hand select feminine styles:
